While Matt Smith was my first Doctor, David Tennant has firmly taken the position of favorite doctor in my mind. There was something about the role that fit him so well that it's hard to think of someone else as the Doctor. That's why this scene was so incredibly tear inducing. In part 2 of "The End of Time", the Doctor battles the Master once more and wins. However, in the process, Donna's grandfather Wilf gets locked in a box that is swiftly filling with radiation, and the only way for him to survive is for the Doctor to sacrifice himself. We see the Doctor struggle with the choice he's just survived death at the hands of an powerful enemy and now he's faced with it again. However, this time, it's accidental death at the hands of someone he considers a friend. We watch the Doctor struggle with the idea of giving up his life for someone and, as usual, we see him make the right choice. The Doctor saves Wilf and in the process triggers his regeneration. While the rest of the episode is equally sad, I have always found this moment to be the most emotional. The viewer is forced to realize that the Doctor doesn't have to save people. He chooses to and that is what makes him the Doctor.
