Doctor Who: 10 Things We Want To See In 'The Day Of The Doctor'

6. Real Danger And Emotional Trauma

With 75 minutes to get it right, and a cast that includes at least three Doctors (including John Hurt) and two experienced companions, it cannot be stressed enough that this episode needs to present a real challenge that will push the Doctor and co well out of their comfort zone. Seeing Matt Smith crying at the mention of Trenzalore really pulled on the heartstrings, but that moment should pale in comparison to the trauma we see in this new episode. We already know the Doctor had to make some big decisions to stop the Time War, and now we need to see that. If he does indeed kill all the Time Lords, as we have been told he did, we cannot begin to imagine the difficulty doing that. Damning your species, all your friends and family to die in circumstances where you cannot visit them again. It€™s surely the hardest moment of his life, and that€™s going to take a brilliant script and top-notch performances to convey. With a lack of two-parters in Series 7, it seems like a long time since the Doctor has really struggled to beat a baddie. Using the sonic to stop the big bad (I€™m looking at you 'The Power of Three'!) is not an option here, and there should be no easy way out. I€™m expecting a very beaten and unhappy Doctor by the time we reach the end credits.
