Doctor Who: 10 Things We Want To See In 'The Day Of The Doctor'
5. The Time War Done Right
Weve all seen Daleks before, and weve seen the Doctor beat them countless times before. So this episode must up the ante if it hopes to top that. Russell T Davies gave us several large-scale series finales in which the Doctor fought against Dalek fleets, so we really need Moffat to bring the epic this time. One positive for Moffat is the free reign that the Time War setting brings whatever happens, it will presumably be locked away and inaccessible by the end of the episode. One can only assume that we will see Time Lords die in this episode, a lot of them. I think we need to see large scoops of that, in some truly frightening circumstances, for the episode to reach its full potential. For the Doctor to decide that killing everyone was the only way out, the Time Lords must have really been struggling. Seeing Time Lords killed, tortured and locked up will surely be a shock to viewers who have only really seen a handful of their species onscreen at all in recent years. As we saw in David Tennants final episode, the Time Lords had gone pretty mental by the time the Doctor stopped them content to reduce everything to dust and just float around as atoms. 'The Waters of Mars' also showed us that Time Lords who get too cocky or go too far can be very dangerous. Will the Time Lords be baddies again in this episode? That could be a really interesting angle, and a nice opportunity for a Timothy Dalton cameo too. In 10s final episode, Davies also gave us some intriguing hints at some of the horrors of the Time War The Couldve Been Kings Army of Meanwhiles and Neverweres, the Nightmare Child, the Skaro Degradations and the Horde of Travesties. Heres hoping we get to see some of these bizzare-sounding ideas realised in this episode.
