Doctor Who: 10 Timey-Wimey Episodes (Not Written By Steven Moffat)

10. The Chase - Terry Nation

Even way back in 1965, Doctor Who was timey-wimey. In fact, the show experimented more with its form in its early years than in any era since. The Chase stands out, though, as, rather than being about the TARDIS landing somewhere and the Doctor and co having an adventure, the adventure is the time travel. Finally having enough of the Doctor, the Daleks have created their own time machine to chase down their enemy and and destroy him once and for all (50 years later and they still haven't managed it). So ensues a dash across the whole of time and space including New York, a haunted house (where Dracula and Frankenstein reside!), the Mary Celeste and a brace of alien planets. Although rather simple compared to the time-travelling hijinks of today's show, The Chase is still an early example of a Doctor Who story that decided to play around with the fundamentals of the format and use time travel as something more than just a device to start the story.
