Doctor Who: All 17 Series 7 Episodes & Special Ranked

13. The Rings Of Akhaten - Neil Cross

It's with slight trepidation that I put this episode at the bottom of my list: it was an episode loved my many and hated by the rest and it certainly sparked some controversy within the fandom. For me, the only redeeming feature of this episode was the final act, with the remainder of the episode being populated by underused villains and a fairly uninteresting plot, which is a fairly catastrophic short-coming. I still wish to this day that The Vigil were the main villains of this episode, their whispered voices of "where are you?" being fairly creepy, and definitely raising more than a few goosebumps. Although the market place and monster designs were amazing and the speech at the end is truly one of Matt's best moments, the rest of the episode just doesn't really hold up, which is truly a shame.
