Doctor Who: 20 Genius DeviantART Creations You Need In Your Life
18. Silence Study
By: moonwildflower There isn't much in the way of painted art in this list, I'm afraid to say. I think that's a reflection of how difficult it is to get paintings absolutely right compared to any other medium (except maybe silver point, which is only for demons). Not only do you have to have a good eye for composition, the execution of the finished work is usually more exacting. Even a very small detail can spoil the overall effect. In this oil on board composition the whole thing comes together just right. It's difficult to fully appreciate paintings on a computer screen. They are almost living things and unless you are in the same room as one you could easily miss the effect. The artist handles the light really well, even to the point where the deepest tones completely obliterate the Silent's right shoulder. Then, working up through all the tones, we have the light bouncing off the face. This gives a lovely, glowing depth to the picture. Finally, the all important expression in the eye is handled beautifully.
