Doctor Who: 25 Actors Who'd Make Great Companions

2. Victoria Wood

The oldest name on this list, 60-year-old Victoria Wood is comedy royalty, and would make an excellent best friend to Peter Capaldi's Doctor. She's easily one of the finest comedy talents that Britain has ever produced, but Wood is a brilliant character actor who would excel in Doctor Who as a human antithesis to the Doctor's otherworldly weirdness. She's often quite maternal, dry and commanding on-screen, and she'd no doubt put the Doctor in his place; having an older face in the TARDIS could bring out either the child in the Doctor or the ancient being, and either would work well to Wood's contrast. Doctor Who really doesn't feel like Victoria Wood's kind of thing, but it would incredible if she'd make an appearance, like long-term collaborator Celia Imrie did in 'The Bells of Saint John'. Or even better, why not write an episode?

1. Emma Watson

And finally, perhaps the most obvious choice for a Doctor Who companion. When David Yates announced that he was to direct a Doctor Who film (which never saw the light of day, after all), Emma Watson was the first name mentioned for a role. It's easy to see why; in the Harry Potter series, she plays a similar kind of character, providing wisdom and warmth to the passionate lead. Though she's probably more likely to stay in film, rather than return to the UK for TV roles, she's still a dream companion for many Doctor Who fans. Who would you like to see though? Comment below!
