Doctor Who: 25 Actors Who'd Make Great Companions

4. Rafe Spall

Rafe Spall is another up-and-coming British actor with a few blockbusters under his belt, often mentioned in relation to the role of the Doctor. As anyone who's ever seen Pete Vs Life will tell you though, Spall would be just as good as a companion. He's not only hilariously funny and extremely believable as an unlucky nobody, he's a great character actor with exceptional timing; he's definitely an actor that would make the most of the funnier Moffat scripts, and his relationship with a Doctor might be similar to Jack Harkness's, or Rory's. Not only is Rafe Spall brilliant at comedy though, he's capable of the serious too, as roles in Anonymous and Prometheus prove; he's also the son of Peter Pettigrew himself, Timothy Spall.

3. Antonia Thomas

Another rising star of British television, Antonia Thomas is an actress who seems like a perfect fit for Doctor Who. One of the stars of comedy-drama Misfits, Thomas's character Alisha saw one of the biggest arcs of the series, eventually becoming a kind and compassionate character. Creators of the show claimed that it was Thomas that made Alisha so vulnerable, and thus, she became a more complex character within the show based on Thomas's own talents. It's a similar arc to Amy growing up or Martha leaving the Doctor, and it's definitely a role that Thomas could take on.
