Doctor Who: 25 Actors Who'd Make Great Companions

14. Carey Mulligan

One of the best one-off characters that Doctor Who has ever produced, Carey Mulligan is another Hollywood star, and another actress that Whovians would love to welcome back to the show. Her performance as the no-nonsense, loveable Sally Sparrow captured fans hearts, and started a campaign to give her a full-time companion spot. If Sally were to travel with the Doctor, she'd no doubt show a curious, inquisitive side again, coupled with an excitement for adventure, and she wouldn't be patronised, that's for sure. Unfortunately though, she's another actress far too big for the show these days. Maybe a cameo one day?

13. Kimberley Nixon

It seems odd that the revived Doctor Who hasn't had a Welsh companion; granted, the Doctor seems to spend a lot of his time in London, but wouldn't it be nice if we saw another companion who lived somewhere else? Kimberly Nixon is a Welsh actress perhaps best known for her roles in Fresh Meat and Cranford. She's extremely funny and feisty, and she's capable of good English and Irish accents, as well as her natural Welsh. She's someone who's progressing to bigger and better roles, and something in Doctor Who seems inevitable one day. Nixon has even admitted herself that it would be "convenient" to be in Doctor Who, as they film in her hometown.
