2. Trial Of A Timelord
What It's About: The Doctor is summoned back to Gallifrey where the Time Lords want to put him on trial for breaking the First Law of Time forbidding the interference with outside worlds by the High Council. Prosecuted by the mysterious Valeyard, the Doctor must prove his innocence and justify his actions, while trying to work out why he's really been brought there and why the evidence isn't adding up.
Why I Would Like A Remake: The Trial of a Timelord series was probably the best story arc ever devised on Doctor Who. It was such a brilliant theme, yet tragically the original was not done as well as it should have been. It was like the million-pound-move with the ten-pence finish. Sure Colin Baker put in a fine performance, as did Michael Jayston as the Valeyard, but the production team had given up by that point. The BBC had already put it on hiatus and the scriptwriters were pulling out like rats leaving a sinking ship. It had been returned with the lowest amount of episodes to date and because the BBC was not injecting enough money less people tuned in to watch an inferior product. This was really frustrating, as it was such a brilliant concept. So picture the scene the 50th ends with the Doctor ending the Time War again, but this time the Time Lords and Gallifrey survive. Time Lords know that the Doctor tried to commit genocide on the Time Lords and is put on trial by Rassilon. In a similar vein to the original, clips from the Doctor's previous adventures get shown in the Doctor's defence and evidence for the prosecution. This would mean that scenes in the Time War get seen, and an interesting aspect would be that Capaldi would be defending the acts of his predecessors, so he would be defending McGann or Hurt, meaning it would give both of them a chance to shine again as the Doctor, whilst still having Capaldi in the thick of the action. With Capaldi potentially being the last Doctor, it would be good to see the return of the Valeyard to work opposite him, as it would prove a fantastic dynamic.
