4. New Cinematography Approaches
Obviously, a movie director is going to look at things from a different perspective than a TV director -- which could be good or bad, but luckily Wheatley has small screen experience as well. But either way, it's different because theyre used to working with a different medium. This could be wonderful for Doctor Who the more dramatic the episodes are, the more we need movie-like cinematography. Ben Wheatley knows how to shoot suspenseful and dramatic scenes and with whats likely to be a good sized budget on hand (certainly not movie sized, but more than a traditional show) he could do wonders with a small screen. What makes Wheatley's movies so great isn't the writing, it's the way he handles each scene. Kill List along with other horror movies Wheatley has done is so scary because of the way it's shot. Either it's shown between blackouts, the camera is at a disturbing angle, or the camera is zoomed in on someone holding a gun and stays there, that's done through shooting. Making something scary is half camerawork, and no one's is going to do it better. With someone writing a fantastic script, we have the makings of a brilliant first two episodes.
