The ratings drop for Doctor Who arent a secret. Everyone knows that the series fell in ratings this past season, and probably, Moffat doesn't want that to happen again. Now, we're partly safe because everyone will want to see the new Doctor unless fans are still mourning Matt but eventually it's going to come down to content and how that content is worked, as well as big names in the episode process. A director who is just as famous as the actors would be enough to bring avid fans of Wheatleys to watch Who if they dont already and hopefully let them stick around. A name like this also creates buzz I'm writing this article, arent I? so the buzz alone could lift help lift the rating drop that happened last series, and may curb any ratings drop due to any disgruntled Whovians. Also, this has been mentioned on other sites, but the fact that Doctor Who has now gotten a popular director on their team for two episodes may inspire other directors The Guardian distinctly said American directors to come on board the Doctor Who train and be involved in something iconic. The idea is that Wheatley will allow the directors to find out about Who, and once they realize how iconic Doctor Who is -- not only in Britain, but worldwide -- they'll want to jump on the train as well.
