Doctor Who: 5 Traits That Made The Fifth Doctor Awesome

2. He Was Endlessly Patient

Peter Davison Doctor Who2 Can you imagine how you would act if you had to share a confined space with Adric and Tegan? All I'm saying is that if I was the Doctor, someone would have "accidentally" fallen out of the Tardis halfway through their first serial. Adric spends all of his time pouting, Tegan spends her's nagging the Doctor about sodding Heathrow, and Nyssa's too much of a doormat to tell them all to shut up once in a while. It certainly isn't the most cohesive Tardis crew the show has ever seen. In fact, I don't think any of the Doctors had to put up with more from their companions than Five did. Despite this, he truly cared about every single one of them, and tried his best to be the mother hen of the ragtag group of misfits. I will always admire him for seeing the best in his companions, and trying to bring that out in them. When Adric runs off to his room at the beginning of Earthshock, whining about how no one understands him and other adolescent rubbish, the Doctor deals with like a pro. Sure, he's annoyed. Who wouldn't be annoyed? But he goes to Adric's room and talks it out with him. He validates Adric's feelings, and is as respectful as possible. That's a right sight better than I would have done.
