Doctor Who: 5 Ways To Bring Back Paul McGann For More On Screen Adventures

5. Further Appearances In The Show Itself

Doctor Who Dark Eyes This is an easy win surely. And you never know, it might still happen. We don't know for sure if other Doctors outside the War Doctor and Tennant's Tenth (or Eleventh) and Smith's Eleven (or Twelfth) Doctor will appear n the 50th. Before 'Night Of The Doctor' I remember there being rumours that McGann wasn't going to be in the 50th because he was in fact appearing in Smith's regeneration episode at Christmas. Of course, every rumour, particularly Doctor Who rumours should be taken with a large pinch of salt. And with the events of the 14th November, I'd be surprised to see more Eighth Doctor so soon. That doesn't mean he shouldn't appear. Far from it. Of all the Doctors pre Nu Who, McGann's Eighth hasn't aged badly at all. Now we've seen him at the end of his life, there's no reason why we can't have more appearances. In fact, I think the events of 'Night Of The Doctor' warrant it. It was the Eighth Doctor who chose, in his dying moments, to cast off his good man/Doctor persona and become the warrior. While we haven't seen John Hurt's War Doctor in action yet, his existence is partly down to the decisions that the Eighth made. Something that Smith's Eleventh wasn't too comfortable with when confronted with his previous warrior self in the closing moment of the series 7 finale 'The Name Of The Doctor'. How would the Doctor react to meeting an earlier version of his self that so blatantly cast aside everything that made him who he was? Would he try to warn him? Or knowing the laws of Time would he realise that what happened had to happen. It's certainly a moral dilemma that could continue beyond the 50th if and when he was confronted with his Eighth incarnation. And while Matt Smith could certainly live up to that moment, I can just see Peter Capaldi in that role now, with all that anger built up at meeting his earlier self. Particularly if we're going to down the 'I'm on my final regeneration story line'. Come on Moffat. You've written one story for McGann. What about another?
