Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

28. Why Do The Doctor And The Master Only Meet In Chronological Order?

Doctor Who Pertwee Delgado As time travelers, isn't it odd that the Delgado Master never plagued the 4th Doctor or targeted the 1st incarnation of his rival Time Lord? While the Dalek and Cybermen who haven't always had time travel capabilities have met the Doctor out of sequence all over his personal timeline, The Master always follows time in a straight line. Why?

27. What Is The Real Connection Between The Doctor And The Master?

3rd In "The Sound of Drums," when companion Martha Jones asked if The Doctor and The Master were brothers, the 10th Doctor dismissed it by saying, "You've been watching too much TV." Well we know The Doctor lies and he didn't really answer the question, did he? The original concept was that either The Doctor and Master were brothers or that The Master was some form of evil manifestation of The Doctor (perhaps a forerunner of The Valeyard concept). Another concept bandied about was that the enemies were the id and ego of The Doctor somehow split and given form. The Master's storyline was to conclude in a story titled The Final Game where the Robert Delgaldo Master would have died sacrificing himself to save The Doctor's life. The untimely death of Robert Delgaldo forced the storyline to be dropped and the relationship between the antagonists was often hinted at but never revealed. In "Planet of Fire," The Master says to the 5th Doctor, "Won't you show mercy to your own..." before seemingly being burned alive. Your own, what? It has been confirmed that the two characters grew up together but might they share familial bonds as well?
