Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

The Fourth Doctor

26. When Did The 4th Doctor Visit The Planet From The Face Of Evil?

Dr Face This unnamed planet was visited by the 4th Doctor at some point in his history when he attempted to repair the Starfall Seven's computer Xoanon, inadvertently leaving it with a split personality. It is an event that he vaguely recalls so one can rule out the theory that his first encounter with the Sevateem is later in his timeline. Also the monument with the 4th Doctor's face rules out the possibility that it was another incarnation of The Doctor. In the novelisation, writer Terrance Dicks suggests that the Doctor first visits this planet during the events of Robot when suffering from post regenerative trauma he jumped into the Tardis for what appeared to be a few seconds, but could conceivably have been much longer. As a writer for the series itself, one could argue that the novel gives the definitive answer, but who knows?

25. Are All Gallifreyans Time Lords?

Invasion Of Time In "The Invasion of Time," Leela encounters the outsiders; members of the Doctor's species who have rejected Time Lord Society, choosing instead to live in the wastelands outside the Capital Citadel. As outcasts from Time Lord Society the story makes it appear that they were no longer considered Time Lords, yet the Doctor who fled Gallifrey all together is still considered a Time Lord. It remains unclear whether the title only refers to Gallifrey's elite €“ their politicians and people of stature. Is Gallifreyan the species and Time Lord an earned title?
