Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

44. Did The Doctor Know About The Daleks Prior To His First Encounter With Them On Skaro?

Doctor Who The Ark The Doctor's first visit to Skaro, in retrospect raises questions about whether the Doctor is telling the whole truth about the Daleks to his first set of companions. Looking back with the perspective of 50 years, it can be argued that the Doctor not only knew exactly where he was and what the Daleks were, but that his sabotaging the Tardis under the guise of wanting to explore the city had a deeper purpose. Could the Time Lords already have been involved in a temporal cold war with the Daleks? Could the Doctor have wanted to get a closer look at an enemy of his people? Further evidence that the Doctor had prior knowledge of the Daleks is given in an anecdote by the 11th Doctor who makes reference to The Emperor Dalek's New Clothes as one of his childhood bed time stories. Considering his track record, it is equally as likely that this is a lie, a joke or the truth.

43. Did The First Doctor Only Have One Heart?

Doctor Who An Unearthly Child There is no mention of the Doctor having two hearts until the 3rd Doctor's debut in Spearhead From Space. In the 1st Doctor story, The Edge of Destruction and the 2nd Doctor story The Wheel in Space it is implied that the Doctor has only one hearts. Writers and fans have postulated that the second heart only grows after your first regeneration, but this has never been confirmed officially. Today, it is taken for granted that the Doctor always had and always will, have two hearts.
