5. The Accessories (Or Lack Of Them)
Perhaps the first thing that strikes you about the outfit is not what's there, but what isn't. No infinite scarf, no swirly Ten tie, no ruffley shirt; he hasn't even had a change of heart about donning a bow tie. Whilst there's not much to see accessory-wise, we can tell from his shirt that Twelve will be a Doctor who'll wear cufflinks; whether they'll have any significant design is unlikely, but they'll probably match the shiny buttons of his cardigan. Eleven wore them, Ten didn't - Moff's other creation Sherlock actually declared in an episode that he doesn't like them - but they're certainly associated with smartly-dressed attire. He also appears to wearing a signet ring on his left hand: is that any relation to the Master's? Again unlikely, but it doesn't feel very Doctorly, does it? The lack of accessories again points to a more common-sense incarnation though, something that Steven Moffat has hinted that he prefers in the past, when he questioned in an interview why the Fourth Doctor always insisted on wearing that scarf, even indoors. A possibly polar opposite to the nutty Tom Baker, this is quite literally, a no frills Doctor who doesn't care about looking cool like his last self did; a fez is looking ever more unlikely by the minute.
