Doctor Who: 8 Aspects Of Peter Capaldi's Costume Analysed

6. The Boots

Eleven opted for Indiana Jones-style adventurer boots that had just come back into fashion, and Ten opted for a pair of timeless comfy trainers. Twelve however is going for the thick-soled boots similar to those that the Ninth Doctor wore. Again, they're an astute choice; they mean business, they're black as not to draw attention - take note, Ten and Five - and the elegant broguing across the top gives them a sophisticated finish. You can tell a lot about a Doctor by their footwear; just as Eleven was the fashionable adventurer and Ten was a familiar, relaxing presence, will Twelve be somewhere between Christopher Eccleston's pragmatism and William Hartnell's worldliness? That's a huge deduction to make from a pair of shoes, but in a practical sense, it will be interesting if that big sole gives Capaldi much more of a presence; he's already six foot tall, and there must be at least an inch and a half in those boots. That's a foot taller than Jenna Coleman, and a good height to loom over the Daleks with.
