Speculation is rife that the Master will return, with certain circles claiming that John Simm is on board to come back for a regeneration. Why doesn't Moffat deal with that scene, tease the following series, and get it out the way all at once? It wouldn't have to be the Master though; a minisode could be the perfect opportunity to show how lethal the Daleks are - as Moffat did with 'The Last Day' - or it could introduce a new foe. If a new arc is starting, in much the way that the Silence dominated Matt Smith's era, a minisode could be the perfect introduction, as it would cast a darkness over the following series, knowing what was around the corner. Again, it wouldn't have to feature all that much of a plot, or even the new Doctor. Just a short story could give this new Doctor a new challenge before his incarnation's even kicked off.
