Doctor Who: 8 Past Roles Proving Keeley Hawes' Casting Is Awesome

7. Spooks (2002-2004)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-nkA2fuqbE A year after Hotel!, Keeley Hawes became a star of Spooks, the BBC's drama about the missions and operatives of MI5 alongside her now-husband Matthew Macfadyen in which she played Junior Case Officer Zoe Reynolds until leaving the show at the end of season 3. In Spooks, Hawes gained her first leading role in an ongoing TV series since Troublemakers (1990), a six-episode children's drama when she was thirteen years old. Spooks more than proved Hawes' acting ability, demonstrated no better than in the clip embedded above which, even out of context, proves her to be a force to be reckoned with. Although not directly in the plot lines (nor, I would imagine, in Hawes' character), there is a striking similarity between Spooks' crime-solving formula and that of Doctor Who, now giving Keeley Hawes the opportunity to step over into the villain's role in the mystery drama. Plus, I found a photo of Keeley Hawes and her husband in which Macfadyen looks an awful lot like Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams). So, yeah. Moving on!
