Under Nine and Ten, we had the Dalek arc. Under Eleven, we had the cracks in time and the Silence. Both were very firmly if not without pain wrapped up. Time for a new plot. Time for a new crazy event that threatens both the universe and the Doctor himself. Time for the companion to play an integral role in saving civilization (in Clara's case, for the second time). It'll be confusing. A lot of people will insist it's a badly put together mystery because god knows, this is the show to turn to for a logical and solvable mystery. A lot of people will say it's too confusing. These people need nieces and nephews to explain it to them. I'd like to point out that no Moffat script goes to a second draft without his 13-year-old son understanding it. We've done Daleks. We've done Silence, so we need a new villain. My money says Cybermen are the next ones. Angels are too hard to write, and Zygons are better for one-shots. Cybermen can give us a big damn long-term plot. But wait, Gallifrey! Gallifrey will definitely be central to the new long-term arc. How? Are they trying to get back? Are they trying to seal off their own universe? Is the High Council trying to do its "End of Time" thing again? What will happen!?
