Doctor Who: 9 Predictions About The Regeneration Conundrum

9. The Solution Won't Involve River Song (Or Any Past Associate)

Yes, we know that River saved the Doctor's life a la "Sleeping Beauty" in "Let's Kill Hitler," but see the previous prediction. While Moffat has demonstrated his "sense of canon," particularly most recently in "Night of the Doctor," one can't believe that in creating a show for the general audience he'll reference an episode that, let's face it, was a bit of a letdown for many. Along the same lines, let's throw out any possibility of seriously reaching back into canon. If one line of dialogue can sum up the attitude of "Doctor Who" in the reboot era, those mots come from the Ninth Doctor: "That's us. Always looking forward, never back." Expect no revelations about the Bad Wolf making the Doctor immortal a la Jack Harkness. No Sisterhood of Karn or references to "The Brain of Morbius" €“ wasn't "The Night of the Doctor" enough? Expect no return visits from Romana (sorry, devotees of whom yours truly includes himself), because by all indications the Orla Brady role in the special is an original character and if Moffat doesn't take the opportunity of the first Christmas special post-Gallifrey Falls No More to reintroduce everyone's favorite Time Lady, it's just isn't going to happen. And don't even think about that Valeyard nonsense.

Except Doctor Who. That's what Os writes about here -- at least for now...
