Doctor Who: Patrick Troughton's 10 Best Bits

2. ''The Mind Robber'

Doctor Who The Mind Robber Now things get really exciting. Following the volcanic end of 'The Dominators' the TARDIS and all who sail in her are forced into an emergency stop in the White Void. No problem there. Or so you'd think. It's actually outside of normal space and time... Welcome one and all to the Land Of Fiction. Presided over by its Master, who before you say anything is most certainly not the one with the beard who pops up to menace the Doctor's next incarnation. This one's a writer and it's his imagination that's keeping the whole place ticking over. And making sure he stays on task is the Master Brain, a nasty piece of work who also happens to be a computer. So you see boys and girls, it's by no means a given that the realm of the imagination isn't all sunshine and rainbows. However, it does though have the White Robots and some clockwork soldiers, Rapunzel and Lemuel Gulliver. As revealed later by way of a sidenote in the novel 'Future Imperfect' he's an undercover Time Lord, Goth. Who quickly sends the Second Doctor off to meet the Third and help keep Omega at bay as a lead into 'The Three Doctors'. Watch out for the creepy 'what can you make with a sword?' riddle and those annoying children too. But its OK in the end as the Doctor and chums quickly learn that you can get away from any threat simply by stating that it doesn't exist! And with that the entirely fictional Land simply melts away. If you wondered where Derek Landy's 50th anniversary Tenth Doctor ebook 'The Mystery Of The Haunted Cottage' takes its inspiration from then look no further.
