Doctor Who: Ranking The Introductions Of Every Doctor
3. An Unearthly Child
On November 23rd 1963, Doctor Who was first broadcast on BBC One. William Hartnell was introduced as the First Doctor in an episode now considered a great example of classic science fiction. The old man in the phone box was introduced as the grumpy Grandfather of super pupil Susan Foreman. In the adventure that follows, he disregards the lives of Ian and Barbara to try and save himself. Effectively, the Doctor kidnaps the two humans to stop them telling the authorities about him. The selfish nature is coupled with even murderous intentions on the cavemen they encounter. The character was given a very alien aura, leaving an uneasy feeling towards this Doctor with no name. Over the the four episodes, although seen best in the first part, that mystery surrounding this time travelling man gets you through what is a drab story - for the first part alone, it is high on this list. As introductions go, the First Doctor had quite the opening with the beginning of a man who would change so much over his fifty years on screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRsfKK34SFY
