6. Spearhead From Space

A new Doctor has arrived in the shape of Jon Pertwee and you can see him in colour. A new foe is followed with him too - the Autons. This was the earliest example of new changes in the regeneration process with The Doctor spending half of the story in a self-induced coma. The hilarity of a medical doctor, confused at the sight of two hearts with another doctor shouting at him for sending non-human blood was certainly entertaining. It takes time for Pertwee to assert himself on screen but he certainly does with a charm that you instantly warm to, as does new companion Liz Shaw. The Earth Exile story of the new few seasons was also established very well with The Doctor putting the Brigadier in his place. The Autons were certainly frightening with their soulless plastic faces and proved a worthy first foe to the Third Doctor.
