Doctor Who Series 8: 10 Reasons The Valeyard Is The Perfect Villain
7. It Would Keep The Master From Being Overused
One of the villains rumored to be returning in series 8 is the Master. It makes sense to bring him back; his rivalry with the Doctor is the stuff of legend. But after he redeemed himself by protecting the Doctor from the other Time Lords in The End of Time, it would seem kind of anti-climatic to have him backslide into evil again. If the writers want the Doctor to battle a Time Lord who is his equal, bringing in the Valeyard would be the perfect solution. What would make the switch from Master to Valeyard even more fitting is that the Master was originally supposed to be a Valeyard-type character. A script from 1973 titled The Final Game was going to reveal that the Master was really the dark side of the Doctor's personality and that they had been the same character the entire time. This idea was abandoned after that show's current Master, Roger Delgado, was killed in a car accident, but as we know, the idea later took a different form in the shape of the Valeyard.
