Doctor Who Series 8: 15 Obscure Easter Eggs You Probably Missed
7. Danny's Funeral Home Is Named After A First Doctor Companion (Death In Heaven)
One of the most haunting elements of all the death-meddling in the Series 8 finale (along with the "don't cremate me" screams) was seeing the corpses in a funeral home come to life; it's enough to put you off the already difficult profession. The name of the place we saw in he episode was the Chaplet Funeral Home, which serious fans of Classic Who will recognise as a reference to Dodo Chaplet, a companion of the First Doctor. Only appearing in six stories, Dodo was written out pretty abruptly, with her wide-eyed character not really connecting with audiences. It's nice to see, almost half-a-century later, that she finally got a little bit of respect from the show's head writer. Maybe, in-universe, she decided to follow on from her adventures in space and time by starting her own funeral home. Maybe. This isn't the only nod to a First Doctor companion in the episode; Clara also references the Doctor's granddaughters.
