The Fourth Doctor
Style: This title sequence was used for a full 6 years. 7 if you include the version used for Jon Pertwee's final year. For most of that time it remained unaltered bar a couple of colouring experiments in the early days, a side effect of which turned Tom Baker's image green and the change from block text to a gothic serif font for the credits from Tom's third year onwards. This was a significant departure from the howlaround effect, instead using a technique known as slit scan, which means nothing to me. Dependant on how you look at it, it is an inventive portrayal of travel through the time vortex. The more critical of you may call it an illuminating journey through a vacuum cleaner tube, being reunited with the Tom Baker Weetabix cut out. Speaking of which, while Tom looks every inch the Doctor, he looks bloody miserable, like most British folk, peering out of the window on a wet summers day. Regardless, its success at the time has made it an iconic classic of a title sequence from an iconic era. It is also the first to feature the TARDIS in the opening. It is the quintessential Doctor Who title sequence and I actually think the effect is pretty good.
Score: 10 The Logo: The diamond logo is a radical departure from anything that has gone before or since. The design is actually surprisingly intricate, more so with the official colours. It is a dramatic rebrand and it's hard to tell what prompted this as Pertwee was still the Doctor when it was introduced. As good as it is, there is something childlike about it and 70's, which does date it. But again it is the quintessential Doctor Who logo that was the identification point for a lot of kids of the time. At present it can be seen as brilliantly retro.
Score: 8 The Theme: There isn't really a lot I can say, it is the same as before but points for keeping it when everything else changed... again.
