The Sixth Doctor
The Style: The sequence is on the surface, basically the same as the previous apart from some spangly rainbow effects. This might seem garish, but after 3 years of Davison it must have been a godsend. It also says a lot more about the character of the Doctor. Brash and colourful. But also they got a bit more technically interesting by having the Doctor's expression change when his face appears, which is a nice touch. It is a small touch that shows, actually, this Doctor can have a bit of fun. These changes made the titles exciting again.
Score: 6 The Logo: Again mostly the same as last year apart from a minor change in shape and a purple glow. But you know what... it actually works. Even the way it appears is an improvement turning towards camera in quite a cool move. It doesn't look as tacky anymore and it doesn't look as cheap.
Score: 4 The Theme: Now here's a point of contention. After Colin Baker's first year, the great Peter Howell theme was removed and a hastily cut theme by Dominic Glynn was added for no conceivable reason. Supposedly the plan was a new title sequence as well, but the budget wouldn't go that far. So we literally get a half baked attempt at an update, which makes it worse. It's not as awful as people say but it is a step back and just doesn't seem right. It just doesn't work.
