Doctor Who: 10 Best Dalek Stories

2. Dalek

The reintroduction of the Daleks in NuWho was hotly anticipated. The new Dalek design was spread across newspapers and magazines, and the day when the sixth episode of the 2005 series aired couldn't come soon enough. Set in a huge underground complex owned by Henry Van Statten in 2012, Dalek told the story of a single Dalek drone, and showed the new audience the show had just how dangerous these evil creatures could be.

Apart from Resolution, no other episode has really explored just how dangerous a single, bog-standard Dalek could be. Over the course of the episode, The Doctor's rage, fuelled by the fumes of the Time War bubbled to the surface, and the Dalek became a genuine character, and less of a one-dimensional killing machine. You could be armed to the teeth, be locked behind the biggest, strongest doors, but the Dalek could still reach, and exterminate you.

There was no hiding from this creature. The Daleks were back, and they were utterly terrifying.
