Doctor Who: 10 Best Episodes For New Fans

8. Silence In The Library

Silence in the Library is one of the most important episodes in Who history for a myriad of reasons, but the most obvious is of course it being the introduction of River Song. But despite this, it still remains one of the best standalone episodes of the show in its history.

If anyone wants to get into Doctor Who because they heard that it's scary, you need to show them this episode first. The atmosphere is thick and heavy, as well as the antagonist of this two parter being one of the scariest one-off monsters in the show's history.

The Doctor and companion Donna Noble come upon the largest library in the universe, only to discover that it's completely empty. And considering that this is a library the size of a damn PLANET, the reasons as to why it's so empty cannot be anything good.

Enter the Vashta Nerata, microscopic beings that live in shadows, usually in small enough numbers as to be harmless, but have amassed so great a number in this library that they can reduce a man to bones in seconds without making a sound. As if this wasn't stressful enough, The Doctor also comes across a mysterious archaeologist named River Song, who seems to know a great deal about The Doctor. But he doesn't know her.

If you're a newbie, and this setup sounds like a fun time, check it out.
