But maybe your hypothetical new fan-to-be just wants to have a fun time and laugh at funny British people in sci-fi shenaniganry. Well don't worry, there are plenty of those too, and one of the best for new fans is Partners in Crime.
Whovians adored the Christmas special that preceded this season - The Runaway Bride, thanks in large part to David Tennant and stand up comedian Donna Noble's brilliant and hilarious chemistry. So they decided that to offset this last season being the darkest yet for The Doctor, they would bring back Donna to help add in some much needed levity where needed.
Partners in Crime sees The Doctor and Donna separately investigating a weight loss firm, suspecting their new miraculous weight loss pill has some sinister edge to it. No points for guessing whether or not they're right.
Not only is it a fun re-introduction of Donna as a now permanent companion of The Doctor, but it's just a really funny, exciting 45 minutes of television. If this is how you start your first Doctor Who season, then you're starting off on a high note.
