But maybe you want to get a new fan into the show with something that's still wacky, but in a more grounded sense than your usual Doctor Who episode. In which case, you'll want to direct this new fan to the 11th Doctor era episode, The Lodger.

The TARDIS has gotten stuck in a time loop, and taken Amy along for the ride, so The Doctor decides to shack up as a lodger in a house that he's traced as the source of the anomaly causing said time loop. What results is what one would expect from an immortal, time traveling, space hopping sci-fi action hero essentially adopting the role as the wacky neighbor in an apartment based sitcom. In other words: hilarity.

What helps the humor of this episode immensely is of course the guest star, talk show host and comedian James Corden, who has downright electrifying chemistry with Matt Smith as the affable every-man who's just wacky enough in his own right to go along with The Doctor's shenanigans. It's a hilarious time and a great gateway for new fans.
