Doctor Who: 10 Best Episodes Of The Decade
6. The Doctor's Wife (2011)
The sixth series of Doctor Who was disappointing. Though Moffat has always been an ambitious screenwriter, he pushed the boundaries too far with the Eleventh Doctor’s second series, and as a result, many of the episodes felt crammed and confusing.
As with every series, however, the showrunner is not the only writer involved. ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ was written by the popular fantasy author Neil Gaiman, and his exceptional talents shine through in this episode.
The dialogue between the Doctor and Idris is both funny and intriguing. Given the latter acts as the host for the consciousness of the TARDIS, the episode is a fascinating look into the Doctor’s relationship with his legendary time machine.
‘The Doctor’s Wife’ further benefits from the set designs. It’s no secret the BBC’s CGI can be rather poor at times, but in this episode the practical sets really help bring the episode to life.
For those who find the sixth series a bit of a headache, ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ is a must-watch episode packed with charm and authenticity.
