2. So, He Can See Computer Simulations Now...
In Series 7's The Name of the Doctor, River Song made (another) reappearance, this time in the form of a computer simulation that was connected to Clara Oswald subconsciously. As only Clara could see her, she was able to help her out in ways unknown to the Doctor or anyone else, such as being able to whisper his name to the overly large TARDIS in order to have the doors open, allowing the Great Intelligence access to the Doctor's grave, which contained his time stream (because apparently when a Time Lord dies, his time stream is left behind, containing everything he or she ever was in the past, which seemingly didn't occur to the Tenth Doctor when the Master died in Series 3!) The Great Intelligence, being foiled too many times in the past by the Doctor, jumped into his time stream in order to wipe him from existence. Clara, disregarding the warnings by River, followed suit shortly afterwards in order to save him. The Doctor, recovering, was about to enter his own time stream, under the protests of River. As she was going to slap him, he surprisingly grabbed her hand before it made contact, letting her and the fans know that he was always able to see her, and that he never said anything because it was too hard to say goodbye. They take a few minutes to banter like they used to before saying their final goodbyes but River reveals before she disappears that since she was telepathically linked to Clara, and she was still there, she would not still be existing if Clara had died, which gives the Doctor the motivation to enter his own time stream to save her. This episode explained how the Doctor was able to meet up with so many versions of the same Impossible Girl in different eras in time and space, as well as give a closing to the saga of the Doctor and River Song. There are rumours, however, that Alex Kingston will appear somehow in Series 9. Many fans are anxiously awaiting that, as seeing her with Peter Capaldi would guarantee some scene stealing moments of their very own!
