Doctor Who: 10 Best Multi-Part Stories In Nu Who

3. Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday

Doctor Who Death In Heaven
BBC

This finale is a favourite of so many peoples and it’s easy to see why; the two-parter is the culmination of the first year of David Tennant’s hugely popular tenth-Doctor, we have resolution to the Torchwood story arc, there’s the tragic “death” of Rose Tyler and the absolute pure playground-nerd joy of seeing Daleks vs Cybermen.

It’s a very solid finale held back only be the fact that the first part is a little underwhelming (aside from that epic final reveal with the void sphere) and the fact that the season had kept hinting at Rose Tyler’s death, the episode literally begins with Rose saying “this is how I died” and then Rose…doesn’t…die.

The episode can be forgiven because Rose still got a heartbreaking (and in some fans’ eyes overly sentimental) ending but it was a worrying sign of a bad habit RTD would develop of straight up lying to the audience for a cheap ratings pop (*cough* Stolen Earth *cough*).
