6. Toby Jones
Speaking of villains, Toby Jones struck a chord as the Dream Lord, the prominent villain of Series 5's Amy's Choice. A mysterious figure eventually revealed to be a psychic composite of the dark side within the Doctor, the Dream Lord taunted the Doctor, Amy and Rory into making a choice between two dream worlds.
He failed, but then this is Doctor Who. The Doctor tends to win, after all.
Jones put in a wonderfully charismatic performance, pulling off one-liners that could have been awkward with a malicious glee. He had the air of a distant observer who still couldn't quite bring himself to resist stepping into mock the protagonists while they faced down mortal danger and the character became far more sinister as a result of this.
It's a tour de force of evil charm and Jones creates one of the stand-out characters of Matt Smith's already outstanding debut series. It's no wonder that Jones has gone on to be a big film star in franchises like The Hunger Games and Captain America. He certainly has the talent for it!
