Doctor Who: 10 Billie Piper Songs That Are Basically About Rose
8. Because We Want To
This is no doubt Billie's most iconic song and a one hit wonder that faired pretty well by being chosen as the official song of the 1999 Women's World Cup. It also made Billie the youngest artist ever to debut at number one but these days it isn't necessarily remembered for all the right reasons. If you really listen to the lyrics, however, it would seem that Billie was singing about Rose before Rose even existed. Talk about timey-wimey. Back then Rose was just a twinkle in Billie's eye (though not those previously mentioned tinted eyes, you'll be pleased to hear) but the phrase "because we want to" pretty much sums up Rose's method of operation. On numerous occasions she did things simply to suit herself without considering the consequences that her actions would have on the people around her. Not to beat around the bush but Rose Tyler was downright selfish. It worked in her favour sometimes but she generally just came across as being tiresomely grating. Just take The Parting of the Ways as an example. She was so determined to get back to the Doctor that she used a truck to rip open the very heart of the TARDIS and she casually told Mickey Smith, her long suffering other half (were they even other halves at this point?), that there was nothing left for her on Earth. Ouch. In the Series 2 finale, Doomsday, she did much the same when she ignored her family's instructions and proved that she can do anything she flipping well wants - to paraphrase the song - by returning to the Doctor's aid and nearly getting herself sucked into the void in the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_XI_290cfw In short, Rose was never one to do things by halves.
