Why She Should: The mantra that Doctor Who needs more female writers has practically become a cliché at this point. Although JK Rowlings name has been thrown around a couple of times, Tregenna is reported to be the one chosen by the Grand Moff to write for the show's upcoming ninth series. Doctor Who
has never been the best when it comes to writing female characters, as Russell T Davies came close to competently writing companions, only to ruin it by turning them into deus ex machinas at the end of their respective series. Moffats shown improvement, but considering where he started, thats not really saying much. Clara is still way too inconsistent of a character. When a female Doctor is inevitably cast, Tregenna would be the best choice to write her, as she has a background in writing for Torchwood. Her selection would also help dispel some accusations of sexism that have been lobbed at Doctor Who
in more recent years.
Why She Shouldnt: Simply selecting a female showrunner does not guarantee quality. It would be best to assess Tregennas chances after her episode in Series 9 is released, to see how well she can write for Doctor Who.
Her lack of experience is really the only reason as to why she would be a questionable pick. Other than that, Tregennas appointment would be met with mostly unanimous acclaim. Why is she not number one? Lets explore...
