Doctor Who: 10 Choices For The Next Showrunner

7. Gareth Roberts

Why He Should: As far as experience with Doctor Who goes, Roberts is second only to Gatiss on this list. He has consistently churned out quality episodes, and shows a certain deftness when it comes to balancing the dramatic and comedic aspects of the show. Additionally, Roberts has been a consistent writing partner for both Davies and Moffat, and who didn€™t love the pairing of James Corden and Matt Smith in Series 5's The Lodger and Series 6's Closing Time? Why He Shouldn€™t: For as much fun as Roberts€™ writing is, he has a tendency to cop out when it comes to endings. Closing Time came way too close to the clichéd €œlove conquers all€ ending, and then there was Danny Pink€™s ridiculous flip at the end of The Caretaker. Much like Gatiss€™ pulpy style, Roberts€™ writing probably wouldn€™t translate too well to a showrunning role.
