Doctor Who: 10 Choices For The Next Showrunner

5. Anthony Horowitz

Why He Should: The main reason that Horowitz€™s name is on this list is because earlier this year, there was a rumour circulating that Moffat was departing after Series 9 and that he was going to choose Horowitz as his successor. Horowitz denied the rumour, but it inevitably got Whovians thinking. His past writing shows that Horowitz has a wide range as a writer, with the young adult Alex Rider book series showing an adventurous side, the under appreciated Diamond Brothers book series showing a humorous side, and the masterful Foyle's War showing a dramatic side. This variety would translate perfectly to Doctor Who and Horowitz€™s selection would be a brilliant move on the BBC€™s part. Why He Shouldn€™t: Unfortunately, Horowitz has himself stated that the rumour was false. He also is currently writing the screenplay for the Tintin sequel Prisoners of he Sun, and has other projects underway, so he would most likely be too busy to take on showrunning duties. As a fun piece of trivia, Steven Moffat wrote the screenplay for the first Tintin film, The Secret of the Unicorn, but was unable to perform any rewrites because he had to return to writing Doctor Who. Could the same happen with Horowitz? Time will tell.
