Doctor Who: 10 Choices For The Next Showrunner

4. Neil Cross

Why He Should: One word: Luther. The Idris Elba-starring cop drama was one of the most underrated shows on TV prior to the conclusion of the third series. Cross wrote some of the most compelling character drama with John Luther, the protagonist, and the intense, and sometimes even scary, nature of the show would be brilliant to see transported into Doctor Who. Cross would also certainly bring prestige to the show in the way Moffat did, after a bounty of award nominations and wins for Luther. Why He Shouldn€™t: As great as Luther has been (seriously, watch it), Cross€™ writing for Doctor Who has been met with mixed reviews. The Rings of Akhaten was extremely divisive (come on people, the speech at the end makes the whole episode worth it), while Hile was a formulaic, if somewhat frightening, offering. Since this track record is shaky, the BBC should be wary about selecting Cross as showrunner. Also, Luther was thankfully just confirmed for a two-part miniseries, so Cross€™ focus will be on that for the near future, anyway.
