Doctor Who: 10 Definitive Dalek Stories Of All Time

10. Resurrection Of The Daleks (1984)

Resurrection Daleks In Peter Davison's only adventure with the Daleks, fans saw the typical elements of the series in its post Tom Baker effort to restore some credibility to the show - a grim, adult tone and an extremely high body count. It is so high in this story in particular that it causes Tegan (Janet Fielding) to leave at the end of it as she simply cann't take the killing anymore. The TARDIS is dragged through a time corridor to 1984 Earth where Davros has been released from his cryogenic imprisonment and, after 90 years in stasis, he is understandably eager to gain revenge upon the Doctor. He plans to create clones of the Time Lord and his companions and use them to assassinate members of the High Council of Time Lords. What Davros doesn't anticipate is the rift his existence causes, however, is splitting the Daleks into those who are faithful to him and those that choose to follow the Supreme Dalek instead. Of course, Davros has a back-up plan to obliterate all the Daleks who have been unfaithful to him with the Movellan virus last seen in Destiny of the Daleks. Davros' plot is defeated after many, many deaths. As can be seen in the picture above, this is one of the few adventures in which viewers saw the Doctor using a gun. He even kills one of the Kaled mutants with it. It's as if the producers were intentionally trying to say, "This is not your father's Dalek adventure." As such, it's gripping and action packed but maybe a little too intense for very young children.

Hi there, What Culture-ers! I'm William Graff, a 40-year old freelance writer from the wilds of Capitol Hill in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I enjoy many things such as beer, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, record collecting, stand-up comedy, long aimless walks, and of course the Broncos, which is required by law if you live here. I appreciate all feedback for my writing, but I prefer cash and/or deleted Smiths singles in lieu of praise. Rock on!
