Doctor Who: 10 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References In The Magician's Apprentice

5. Patrick Troughton's Trousers

When picking the Twelfth Doctor's outfits, Peter Capaldi really lets his inner Doctor Who fan show. Last series his signature look of a buttoned-up white shirt and a dark jacket with red inner-lining was very similar to that favoured by Jon Pertwee's incarnation. Though sadly minus the frilly bits.

In this episode, however, he added some plaid trousers to the ensemble which bring to mind those worn by Patrick Troughton, and to a lesser extent the beige pair of the same pattern worn by the First Doctor. As he thinks he is about to die, the Doctor seems to be getting nostalgic for his previous incarnations, mentioning that he spent the last couple of days in a long scarf and a bowtie.

Next time, let's hope Capaldi goes for Peter Davison's cricketing gear and Colin Baker's multi-coloured coat. On second thoughts, maybe not.
