1. Blink (Story 186, 2007)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzlsgNwRA-Y Its quite fascinating to go back and watch this one now, five years later, after weve seen the Angels a bit more. Theyve never been as menacing or as interesting as they were here, and here they were extremely menacing and interesting. I fear that they may end up becoming the Daleks of the new series (ie: very over-used and way too easy to beat), but at least here, they were really something. I also liked that this story played around with the notion of time travel and all the problems that it can cause and fix. The sweet and wonderful tragedy that would become such a hallmark in the Moffat era is also on full display here, particularly in the scene where Sally Sparrow bids a final farewell to Billy Shipton. Honorable Mention: Time Crash, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0cyxb2kG9E Only half an episode, so it only counts partially on here. It is, despite its ten minute run length, considered to be canon. Its also the only multi-Doctor story of the new series (so far), and arguably the best of all the multi-Doctor stories period. The two Doctors (Fifth and Tenth), meet, have their merry banter and then are on their way with a minimum of fuss. That was nice. It is also a love-note to the fans, David Tennant among them. When hes addressing the Fifth Doctor saying, You were MY Doctor! he is talking as himself, and not as the Doctor. Fun fact: Tennant later went on to marry the daughter of Fifth Doctor actor, Peter Davison. Make of that what you will. As I said at the outset, the Tenth Doctor was not perfect. The writing for the character was way too inconsistent, and Tennants performance, while generally good, went a bit over the top too often. But that said, he was, indeed, the Doctor we needed at the time, and Im glad we had him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDTYJcbMBU8
