Doctor Who: 10 Greatest NuWho Speeches
8. The Doctor Falls - Twelfth Doctor
Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?
The Doctor’s final plea to The Master and Missy is nothing short of heartbreaking brilliance. Doing what’s right isn’t always easy, and sometimes it seems pointless, but we have to live with all the choices we make in life. The Doctor once again stays true to himself and his morals, begging for The Master and Missy to do the right thing and be kind for once in their lives.
His monologue about kindness and doing what’s right was The Doctor’s last-ditch effort to bring his best friend back, with hope they will stand side-by-side saving the innocents from the Cybermen attacking their homes.
This speech was Twelve’s stand-out hero speech, as he put all his problems aside to try and save as many people one last time, knowing that this will ultimately be the end for him.
Although it's shown throughout the speech that The Doctor was directing his words mostly towards John Simm’s Master, it’s clear he was aiming them all at Missy. While Missy initially disregarded what The Doctor had said to both of them, she changes her stance and decides to do the right thing by killing her previous self, causing The Master to presumably regenerate into Missy.
It’s sad that The Doctor never got to know the impact his words had on Missy and how, in the end, Missy saw The Doctor as her best friend instead of her enemy.
