Doctor Who: 10 Greatest NuWho Speeches
7. We're All Stories In The End - Eleventh Doctor
Because it was, you know, it was the best: A daft old man, who stole a magic box and ran away.
"Let's make it a good one, eh?", a quote that has now become famous within the Doctor Who fandom.
Matt Smith's monologue to a child Amy Pond instantly became one of the most quoted speeches in NuWho history. The Doctor has to say goodbye to Amy, talking about the adventures they will never have and how she will dream of a madman in a blue box travelling through time; memories that were once real, but she will not be able to remember them.
In his ultimate moments of the monologue, he tells her a story of the blue box and how he stole it from Gallifrey, constantly going on adventures and never slowing down. The Doctor doesn’t know if he’ll ever see Amy again, making himself just a story but also telling a young Pond that throughout her life, the memories she makes will also become stories. It’s a beautiful yet bittersweet monologue as The Doctor knows he must sacrifice himself and Amy’s memories to save the universe.
The monologue becomes one of the most important plotlines in the show, as The Doctor cleverly describes the TARDIS in a way that Amy will remember the box and The Doctor on her wedding day, bringing him back into Amy and Rory’s lives.
