Doctor Who: 10 Greatest Thirteenth Doctor Stories
2. Spyfall
Featuring the return of the Doctor's arch-enemy, a brilliant villain, a great cliffhanger, and some heavy fan service, Spyfall has it all, making for the strongest series opener in Chibnall's run.
In this James Bond homage/parody, the Doctor, Graham, Yaz, and Ryan find themselves entangled in a story including mysterious alien beings, MI6 agents, and the head of a tech company who isn't all that he seems.
At the end of part one, it's revealed that MI6 agent O is in fact the Master, who has been controlling everything the entire time. The return of the Master was a twist no-one really saw coming, and added huge anticipation and hype around part two.
The Doctor then faces the Master in a battle across time through the 1800s to the present day, where the Master is sucked into a dimension belonging to those aforementioned mysterious beings, the Kasaavin.
After the controversial decision to not bring back any recurring villains and only have one-part episodes in Series 11, Series 12 effectively made the most of two classic elements of Doctor Who right out of the gate.
