Doctor Who: 10 Iconic Sixth Doctor Moments Nobody Will Ever Forget

4. "Carrot Juice!"

For his big day, Baker will no doubt be having a well-earned slice of cake. But his on screen companion Melanie Bush thought the Doctor a bit too fond of such things, and famously put him on a strict diet. Who could forget the frankly alarming sight of Bonnie Langford urging Number Six to feel the burn as he frantically pedalled an exercise bike to extinction in the console room? Perhaps inspired by the actor's love of a good meal (he reflected ruefully on his victory during a pie eating competition with Joan Sims while filming The Mysterious Planet), the colourful cat fan got well and truly taken to task by his forthright ginger colleague. And in tribute to the carrot-topped Mel, the tipple of choice to reduce his waistline was carrot juice, a substance guaranteed to make the children of the UK retch up their confectionary. This bile-inducing beverage played an unusually large part in the history of Baker's Doctor, forming his last ever utterance as his incarnation dematerialised from our lives. "Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice...". When we next saw the Sixth Time Lord, he wasn't feeling himself. Quite literally, as the actor had refused to reappear and Sylvester McCoy had to do his best "Colin Baker lying face down" impression for the handover of the TARDIS keys. All those liquified vegetables may just have contributed to his volatile regeneration!
